Elm Street Lighting Troublshooting

date
January 17 2008

Elm Street Residents;

It has come to my attention that some of the solar powered lights we provided through our alley lighting campaign have been a bit finicky.  I have compiled instructions and troubleshooting tips from the Cooper Lighting instruction manual that may be helpful to those of you experiencing problems.  Please see below for these instructions.  In addition, we still have a few remaining lights that we are looking to get out into the neighborhood.  Please encourage your neighbors to contact me at samantha@friendship-pgh.org or (412)-441-6147 x 1  if they would like to help with the effort to light Friendship’s alleyways! Thank you!

Sincerely,

Samantha Teixeira

How to Operate your Light
•    After fixture has received three full days of sunlight, slide the ON/OFF switch on the bottom of the housing to the ON position
•    Keep in mind that the sunlight does not have to be direct sunlight, if there is thin cloud cover the panels will still work
•    The fixture has a warm up period of about one minute. Light may turn on during this period.  Once the light turns off, you are ready to test.
•    Move slide switch on the bottom of the sensor to “TEST”. Set sensitivity knob to medium (halfway)
•    Aim sensor head in desired direction. Make sure sensor head is positioned with control switches facing towards the ground.
•    Walk across the detection zone at the furthest distance you wish your detector to detect motion
•    Adjust sensitivity until you get desired results. Light will turn off 4 seconds after motion has stopped. Allow 5 seconds after light turns off before your next test
•    Move slide switch to “AUTO”. Light will turn on at night when motion is detected and turn off 30 seconds after motion stops

Troubleshooting for your light
•    You may need to adjust the solar panel so that it gets the maximum amount of light, this changes from season to season
•    If the solar panel gets dirty you can clean it with a soft wet cloth
•    During periods of several cloudy days the battery may become discharged and the battery will need to be recharged. In order to do this, you must turn the ON/OFF switch “OFF” and let it recharge for a couple of days before turning it back “ON”
•    When the battery is low the light might cycle on and off repeatedly, if it does this then you have to shut it off as indicated above

Hopefully this helps those of you running into problems!  For other questions you can call the Cooper Lighting customer service number at (800)-334-6871.
