Dear Friendship Neighbor, Friendship Development Associates is planning the 15th Annual Friendship House Tour, and as a valued member of our neighborhood, we would like to invite you to contribute to the tour as a Friendship Friend at the $50 contribution level. By becoming a Friendship Friend, you show your support for FDA and the work we do to make Friendship a great neighborhood in which to live. This year’s tour will take place on Sunday, September 21, 2008 and is titled, “Pride and Progress: The History of Architects and Architecture in Friendship.” Friendship will showcase the homes of local architects, past and present, as well as a wide range of homes from traditional to modern, each with great architectural features. As an added bonus, the tour will feature the original home of architect Charles M. Bartberger and the Friendship School he designed. We would be thrilled if you would join us as a sponsor. We would like to take this opportunity to tell you about some of the great things going on in Friendship that would not be possible without the participation and support of dedicated Friendship residents like yourself: • Friendship Folk and Flower Festival – The 2008 Festival was a tremendous success! There was sunshine, great music, beautiful flowers, engaging activities and community fun! We were able to raise over $2,300 to be used maintain the park throughout the year. • 5000 Penn and Glass Lofts Groundbreakings – On April 16th over 100 friends, supporters, community members and funders joined FDA for a ground breaking ceremony at 5000 Penn. Three new loft style town homes will be constructed at the lot. On June 4, 2008, despite the rain, nearly 75 people attended a “Glass Making Ground Breaking” for the Glass Lofts, a “green” mixed-use multi-million dollar development on the corner of Penn Avenue and North Fairmount Street. The shovels stayed in the closet while artists from The Pittsburgh Glass Center ran across the street with a ladle of molten glass, pouring the hot glass into a mold on the construction site “ladling” the groundwork for the Glass Lofts • Installation of trashcans and bulletin boards – 12 trash cans and 9 community bulletin boards will be installed throughout the neighborhood by the end of summer. • Lighting at Baum Grove –The Friendship Elm Street Committee has contracted with Outdoor Lighting Perspectives of Pittsburgh to install architectural lighting Baum Grove. Lighting was installed in June on all 12 trees around the perimeter of the park, both paths across the park, the back wall, the sign, and up lighting the tree in the center of the park. These are just a few of the exciting events occurring in Friendship! Please consider contributing to our unique neighborhood by donating $50 as a Friendship Friend. Thank you for your support. Should you choose to become a Friendship Friend, please visit www.friendshiphousetour.org or send your $50 donation to Friendship Development Associates, Inc., 5530 Penn Avenue, Pittsburgh, PA 15206. Sincerely, Sarah Collins Marketing and Communications Coordinator |
