Just a quick update: You may have passed the old gas station @ Penn and Negley over the past week and seen the heavy machinery and the giant hole. I visited the Penn Negley site last Wednesday and spoke with Kevin Brien, Senior Environmental Engineer with Leggette, Brashears & Graham. According to Mr. Brien, Cumberland Farms, the former owner of the site, is required by the PA Department of Environmental Protection to test the soil. After installing wells to test the water, they learned that the soil was quite contaminated, requiring immediate remediation. I have requested a copy of Mr. Brien's report that he'll be filing with DEP...Please contact Matthew at matthew@friendship-pgh.org if you have any further questions. |
