The rainy weather isn't interfering with our celebration! Please join us along with Mayor Luke Ravenstahl, and our partners today at 2 p.m. for a "Glass Making Ground Breaking" for the Glass Lofts. Due to the inclement weather, the event has been moved indoors. The ceremony and reception will take place at the Pittsburgh Glass Center, 5472 Penn Avenue. This is not your ordinary ground breaking. Artists from The Pittsburgh Glass Center will run across the street with a ladle of molten glass, right out of the 2,200 degree furnace, and pour the hot glass into a mold on the construction site “ladling†the groundwork for the Glass Lofts. Speakers at the event will add their own creative touch by throwing frit, crushed colored glass, into the mold creating the first tile for the building. The tile created at the event will then be used in the actual building. The shovels will stay in the closet and guests will catch a glimpse of the creative energy here in the Penn Avenue Arts District. We hope you will join us for this unique event! |
