In November 2006, the collaboration began with the Pittsburgh Montessori administrative and parent leaders, together with the Friendship Development Associates and Friendship Preservation Group community leaders to address issues around the school’s playpark. It became clear that safety issues were the highest priority and plans to improve the area’s existing condition were also to be addressed. One of the outcomes is the replacement of two large trees along Graham St. that have been identified in poor condition and at the end of their life span. Removal of these trees may begin as early as this coming weekend. These trees will live on in the form of benches for the school’s Peace garden and for educational purposes in the classroom. The planting of replacement trees will begin as soon as the best conditions exist and the new trees are part of a larger beautification plan for the playpark area as coordinated by the Elm Street program. For the last couple of weeks the Montessori students created and displayed signs to share with the neighbors saying “good bye and thanks” to the trees. If you have questions or concerns about the trees please contact the Friendship Development Associates office at 412-441-6147 or email fda@friendship-pgh.org |
