If you received a new street trees within the past two years, please be sure to water it. Trees will die if they do not have enough water!  These new trees need 15-20 gallons of water per week any time when there is not at least one inch of rainfall that week.

Trees must be watered slowly to permit to moisture to soak into the soil.   There are two easy ways to do this:  Let the hose trickle at the base of the tree for an hour or so.  OR drill a few holes in the bottom of a five gallon bucket.  Place the bucket at the base of the tree --fill it up with the hose or using another bucket.  Let the water trickle out.  This should be repeated at least 2 additional times to give the tree a minimum of 15 gallons of water.  It is better to provide one good soaking than several light waterings.

Lack of water is the most frequent cause of death for newly planted trees.  Help make sure that the substantial investment in planting pays off in mature healthy trees by providing this critical care.
