Brian Gruendl

Brian Gruendl lives with his wife, Julia Wattick, in the 5000 block of Coral Street. They moved to their apartment in April 2023 and have received nothing but warm welcomes from the neighborhood! They love taking long walks and bike rides together around the tree-lined, quiet streets admiring the beautiful homes.

Brian works as an Architect at the Lawrenceville-based architecture firm Desmone. He’s spent the past eight years working in Pittsburgh and has been a part of several wonderful design and construction teams developing City projects. His most fulfilling project to date was the Second Avenue Commons in Uptown, a low-barrier shelter serving our most vulnerable neighbors experiencing homelessness. The Second Avenue Commons project was a complex, public-private committee effort that inspired him to seek a way to similarly contribute to a community organization.

As an Architect, Brian has significant experience reviewing and interpreting both the City of Pittsburgh Zoning Code and the International Building Code. He’s worked on both publicly- and privately-funded projects and is currently working on several mixed-use, multi-family projects, of which many are adaptive reuse. He holds a Bachelor of Architecture from Penn State with an Interdisciplinary Minor in Architectural History. His passion for history in the built environment is coupled with personal interests in urban planning and cartography.
