Tax deductions and donating stock are other ways to donate.
Tax deductions: If someone itemizes their taxes, donations to qualified charities may be tax-deductible.
Donating appreciated stock: A donor may be able to deduct the full fair market value of the stock and avoid paying capital gains tax on the appreciation.
Qualified Charitable Distributions (QCDs): If a person is age 70½ or older, they can donate directly from their IRA to a charity. This distribution is not counted as taxable income. Once the donor reaches the age when Required Minimum Distributions (RMDs) begin (generally age 73, or 75 for some individuals depending on birth year), the QCD can also help satisfy their RMD requirement.
