About Street Stewards

Garbage 2022-2.jpg

Friendship Street Stewards (FSS), a volunteer subsidiary group of Friendship Community Group (FCG), is dedicated to keeping our neighborhood’s sidewalks, streets, and alleys clear of litter. Volunteers adopt one block or more and agree to keep it free of litter on their own time, with at least one pick-up per month from April through November. The adopted blocks are regularly updated on the map so it is clear which blocks have been claimed and which blocks still need coverage.

Street Stewards are also invited to join in FCG’s monthly scheduled litter pick-ups (April- November). These monthly pick-ups may focus on specific sections of Friendship or types of roadways, like alleys, or simply cover areas of the neighborhood that have not yet been claimed by a steward. Volunteers will be able to select which blocks they would like to cover once they receive their general instructions. Monthly volunteers will all meet in one spot at the start and fan out. They may take their collected trash with them back to their own homes, or they can leave their bags at a designated spot in Baum Grove for pick-up.

FSS may also ask the Street Stewards to pick up at certain times, if able, such as before neighborhood events. FSS can provide supplies like gloves, bags, buckets, grabbers, and vests, but the volunteers are also encouraged to use supplies they may have already.

Regular litter pick-up helps keep the neighborhood clean and may make a litterbug think twice the next time! It’s also a great family activity. Sign up below to adopt your block(s).
